MUET WRITING: Introduction


The main aim of MUET paper 4 is to test the ability of students to write various types of text in English fluently and in a mature, logical and organized fashion. Two writing tasks are set to assess the ability of the MUET candidate: transferring information from a non-linear source a linear text and writing a piece of extended.

Paper 4: writing
Duration:
90 minutes
40 minutes for QUESTION 1
50 minutes for QUESTION 2

Instruction:

QUESTION 1:
Write a report /article about 150 to 200 words describing all the information given

QUESTION 2:
Write an essay at least 350 words long based on a topic given

2 QUESTIONS

QUESTION 1:
-transfer information from a non- linear source to a linear text.
-the stimulus given may be either in linear and/or non-linear text.

QUESTION 2:
-Write an essay on a given topic.
-essay may be in analytical, descriptive, persuasive or argumentative style.

ANSWERING STRATEGY

QUESTION 1:
                          I.     Analyze and study the stimulus and graphic aid.
                         II.     Focus on the task and join down points.
                        III.    Organize your points, use logical sequencing and cohesive devices.
                     IV.     Describe what the table/graph shows.
                       V.     Link the data presented
                     VI.     Do NOT give opinions and don’t copy words from stimulus.
                    VII.     Do NOT give answer using bullet point write report/article in full.

QUESTION 2:
                        I.      Read the question carefully.
                       II.      Prepare an outline – introduction, body and conclusion.
                      III.     Organize according to topic sentence, supporting ideas and/paragraphs.
                   IV.       Link them using cohesive devices.
