Parts of the MUET Writing paper


The MUET writing the requires candidates to complete two questions within 90 minutes, namely, to transfer information from a non-linear source to a linear text, and to write an essay of at least 350 words on a given topic.

Task 1 : transferring information from non-linear source to a linear text
·         You are given 40 minutes to complete this task.
·         Read and interpret information based on a linear text supporter by some graphic material.
·      The graphic information may come in one of five forms – a line graph, bar graph, pie chart, table or diagram illustrating a process.
·         Describe the information or the process in a report between 150 to 200 words.
·         This section of MUET paper 4 carries 40 marks.

Task 2 : extended writing
·         Write an essay based on a topic given.
·         The essay may be in analytical, descriptive, persuasive or argumentative style.
·         Write on less than 350 words in about 50 minutes
·         Familiarize yourself with the appropriate language to report writing.
·         This section of MUET paper 4 carries 60 minutes.
