Communicative English Mini Project/ Mini Theses

The Topic:

The topic should be related to ISSUES THAT CAN BE DISCUSSED OR MAY HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED OR UTTERED by people or the community and in this case the PKS students for example parking issues, hostel related issues, learning facilities related issues and many more.

Please remember that this mini project or mini theses is a sort of RESEARCH of what is happening around you, how people look at it and what the community can do and learn about it.

Statement of Purpose:

This is the sentence that you need to write to state what you expect to learn in your project or mini theses for example:

“This study was conducted to investigate the level of satisfaction of JKM male students towards the facilities provided in their classes in June 2013 Session”(clearly indicate that the researcher(s) wanted to know in what measure in satisfaction among JKM students towards the facilities in their classes in that period of time only)

“This study was done to find out the reasons behind the issues of parking spaces in PKS in 2012 until 2013”(clearly trying to find out the reasons of parking space issues in PKS in that 2 related years)

Statement of Purpose should be written as brief as possible (1-3 sentences) as it determine the flow of the mini project or mini theses.

Please remember that Statement of Purpose is written because you as the researcher(s) want to know about something (especially reasons) because of an issue or some issues.

You can put it as these “What is the problem here?”, “What is actually happening here or there?”, “What happened here?”, “What’s going on?”

Scope of the Mini Project or Mini Theses:

“Students should describe the limitation on the implementation of the mini project clearly”

Well what’s that mean?

Limitations are influences that the researcher cannot control.   They are the shortcomings, conditions or influences that cannot be controlled by the researcher that place restrictions on your methodology and conclusions. Any limitations that might influence the results should be mentioned.

When considering what limitations there might be in your mini research, be thorough.  Consider all of the following:
  • the instruments you are using; in this case questionnaires, face to face interview
  • the sample/ subjects; the people that are involved in your study, for example the students ok PKS
  • time constraints; not enough time to do more than you could, meaning to do further research on the same topic; to be more specific; to provide more data/ information.
