Sentences

A Sentence is a group of words that makes complete sense, that is, whose meaning we can understand completely. We talk and write in Sentence.

Let us look at the following groups of words:

1. He has. He has a pen.

2. Coming home soon. He is coming home soon.

3. Robert had. Robert had a drink of ice-water.

4. She felt. She felt very happy.

5. You heard. You heard the noise.

We see that the meaning of the groups of words on the left side of the page is not very clear; but the meaning of the groups of words on the right side is very clear. The group of words on the right side, which make complete sense, that is, whose meaning we understand completely, are called Sentences. The groups of words on the left side, which do not make complete sense, are not Sentences.
